Funny Confession #260

I'm not sure who I dislike more. The guy who invented this style of toilet or the guy who decided it wise to install one atop a mountain for women (and children) in ski boots to struggle with. I am sure both were guys. A girl would never...

All Aboard!!!!

Did you know there is a high speed "ski train" that connects Amsterdam to the French Alps???  Well we did...and by the time you read this post...we'll be on it.

This is our kind of Polar Express!

Diner de Noel

Last night was a big one for the children at Lycee Van Gogh in Amsterdam (our little french school).  It was le diner de noel.  All the kids fancy up, and ride to school at night, to have dinner in their classroom with their teachers and buddies.  It was so sweet.  The school was transformed, candles burning (yes, real ones, lots of them), music playing, twinkle lights...

You know its a big occasion if W opts to wear something other than a football jersey or "bad guy shirt".

I'm so thankful that P believes that when it comes to fashion (and everything else) more is more, just like her mama.

can you feel the holiday excitement?

A shoutout to my friend HB for snapping this photo of us with my sleigh...all lit up with twinkle lights for christmas.  This was taken right in front of P's classroom after the dinner was over.

La vie est belle, especially with twinkle lights and holiday decor all over...fa la la la la la....

Chamonix

We are still riding a high from our weekend in Chamonix. Good timing to come across these old pix of O, rocking some Chamonix Tees...

Wow I love Portland! Dutch News is good too, (unless you are a cop, or an ant).

In The City of Bikes

I mentioned this book (In the City of Bikes) a few months ago, in this post.  It was such an enjoyable read for me, probably because it is so relevant to me in my current life.  If you live in Amsterdam, or are interested in bike life, you gotta read it.  If not, the book may not be for you.

In either case, take a few minutes to watch this video to see for yourself the beautiful chaos that is the Amsterdam bike scene.  If you want to learn about bike culture/history in Amsterdam, turn the volume on.  If not, just watch the footage to get the idea.

I've been a happy part of this scene every day for the past 10 months and it still blows my mind (in mostly good ways) every single time I hop on my bike.

If you watched the above clip and want to see more, check this short one one.  Or, if you can't make time for the above film, jump to this one...

P's Fete

P's bday was celebrated with a sweet and simple party a la maison, per her request.  She was very clear on her vision and we tried our best to bring it to life.  She was one happy hostess, the girl loves to party.

The hostess is running through the agenda with the group...as you can see, we stuck to the plan...

Wild Ride

I can't believe it has taken me this long to bring this vision to life...but finally, as of today, my bakfiets has a new look.

Suddenly trips to the grocery store are more exciting...or at least finding my parked bike is a bit easier...

Well Done Coca Cola - you nailed it

Giving Thanks

As I mentioned, the holidays have come at us fast this year.  Thanksgiving came and went so quickly.  We celebrated with a fabulous group of new AMS friends, which felt exactly right as we are most thankful to have AMS friends to share this opportunity with.
This is how to roll to a potluck in AMS
The ovens over here are not large, at all.  My friend LL (who hosted Thanksgiving) has a large one compared to most.  Even a large one barely fits a turkey.  She didn't have a centimeter to spare...but the bird turned out perfectly.

I love place cards (and they always seem to be around on thanksgiving)
